February 13, 2025: Student transportation cancelled, OCDSB schools remain open

All school buses and vans serving the OCDSB will be cancelled on February 13, 2025, due to poor weather conditions. For students assigned to public transit (Presto), all 600-series school routes and any school trips on regular routes will not operate.

OCDSB schools will be open. Parents and caregivers are welcome to drop off their children at school and pick them up at regular bell times. The Extended Day Program will also be open for registered students.

A Day in the Life of NJ students

Every student's school day will look different as we are an alternate program that centers their learning around their needs that day. Students can elect to join in with programs, events, or activities but can also focus solely on their course work each day.

Students are expected to be PRESENT each day. The following is the general school schedule; however, modifications to this schedule (i.e., late start, M-W-F, etc.) can be made but must be approved by our guidance department and Vice Principal.

7:30am School is open
8:30 - 9:45 Period 1
9:45 - 10:00 BREAK
10:00 - 11:15 Period 2
11:15 - 11:30 BREAK
11:30 - 12:45 Period 3
12:45 Dismissal from regular day

  • FREE breakfast Cart comes around at the start of period 2
  • FREE food made by students is served at second break (not daily)
  • Workshops run all the time (listen for announcements)
  • Phys-Ed runs in Period 3 (Tuesday/Thursdays)
  • Extra credit programs like Band and Hockey run after school (1:00pm - 3:00pm)

Why do we end at 12:45?
Students at NJ complete 3 periods condensed in the morning and are dismissed by 12:45pm. This modified schedule allows students to:

  • secure and maintain afternoon part-time jobs
  • attend school for a shorter period of time
  • be flexible with life and family responsibilities
  • schedule their medical appointments in the afternoon and miss less class time
