HIP4O: Personal Life Management
The basic
philosophy of the Alternate High School Program is to provide learning
experiences for students in an environment other than the traditional
secondary school, so that each student can reach full potential for
educational success and survival skills for a complex society. This
philosophy stresses the need to use dynamic strategies and processes,
including concrete work to increase self-awareness and self-esteem.
A
dedicated team of teachers plan and supervise the lifeskills program
that runs 2-3 times a year. Students earn an HIP4O credit by completing
the lifeskills program. It is a unique course in that it will help
acquire skills you will need to make good life choices and appropriate
life decisions. Students learn to manage personal resources through a
points-based structure. Students gain points for positive choices and
lose points for not attending or arriving late.
The course is divided up into five specific areas:
-
Research and Inquiry Skills
-
Self & Others
-
Daily Living Skills
-
Personal & Social Responsibilities
-
Economics & Personal Financ
