Norman Johnston strives to foster an environment of healthy eating
across all areas of the school. Research shows that students who eat
well learn better and engage positively in a school community. Norman
Johnston received a $50 000 healthy foods grant to help us provide
access to healthy foods to our students. The following pillars to our
Healthy Eating program increase the access to healthy foods all day
long:
Breakfast Program (8:00 - 8:25):
Students have access to a nutritious breakfast every day before classes start. See Val in the Breakfast room!
Office Snacks (all day):
Healthy snacks are available in the front office all day long ranging from Cheerios to homemade granola bars. Ask Val for more details!
Food & Nutrition Courses:
Students
in our prepare food using fresh, homegrown produce from our Garden
program and provide healthy options to the student body. Foods students
also cater events for school events including BBQs, leadership
activities, band performances and graduation. The following credits can
be completed at Norman Johnston:

Healthy Eating Camp (Annual event):
Norman
Johnston runs an annual 2 day Healthy Eating camp at a local outdoor
facility. Students learn how to plan, shop, and prepare healthy low cost
foods. Students who attend healthy eating camp complete part of an
HFL4E credit and can complete the credit by helping with Foods events
and completing the additional in-school assignments. See Sally for more
information!
